Guide: Demons of Asteborg on Retro Handhelds

Nearly 33 years after the Sega Genesis released, we have a new game to try out! Demons of Asteborg released last month and can easily work in your favorite retro handheld. If it can run Genesis games (and the Picodrive emulator), it’ll likely run this game, too.

Find it on Steam
Main page (for the demo)

ArkOS and RetroOZ instructions:

  • To set Picodrive as the emulator for this game, hover over the game in the main menu and press the SELECT button > Edit this Game’s Metadata > Emulator > RetroAarch and then Core > Picodrive
  • If using a non-4:3 display device like the OGA, OGS, RG351P, RG351M, or RGB10, you will want to manually set the game to a 4:3 aspect ratio. While the game is playing, press SELECT + X to bring up the RetroArch Quick Menu. Navigate to Settings > Video > Aspect Ratio > 4:3 to set the game to a 4:3 aspect ratio. Then, return to the Quick Menu and select Overrides > Save Game Overrides.

351ELEC instructions:

  • To set Picodrive as the emulator for this game, hover over the game in the 351ELEC menu and press the X button to bring up the Options. Select Advanced Game Options > Emulator > Libretro/Picodrive
  • If using the RG351P or RG351M, you will want to manually set it to a 4:3 aspect ratio. While still in the Advanced Game Options section, navigate to Game Ratio > 4/3

EmuELEC instructions:

  • To set Picodrive as the emulator for this game, hover over the game in the EmuELEC menu and press SELECT to bring up the View Options menu. Select Advanced System Options > Emulator > Libretro/Picodrive
  • If using a 3:2 or 16:9 display device, set the aspect ratio to 4:3. While still in the Advanced Game Options section, navigate to Game Ratio > 4/3

  1. With 351ELEC and Libretro/PicoDrive, the game isn’t saving or doesn’t have the ability to save it appears. It also bugs out with save states. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
